Red Out Loud

Console Homes

We have arrived. Last night we were picked up from the small Lilongwe airport at 12 pm by two of the loveliest men, Blessings and Raphael. Raphael will be driving us around while we are here and Blessings runs the G4G office here in Malawi. We went to have lunch and shop for food, then settled into our little cabin in area 49, where will stay on the weekends, this cabin is attached to a small orphanage for high school age girls, run by very welcoming nuns/sisters. The accomations are 1st world, with shower and electricity. We brought wine and chocoloates for the nuns and some more chocolates for the girls. I am looking forward to spending some more time with the girls. They seemed to be studying hard and were very warm….some songs to be sung with them in the near future!

Today we spent the day in Console Homes, a home for orphans and vulnerable children started by Madonna. The program is very organized and the teachers there are very good. The children were beautiful, it was very special to sing, feed and play games and soccer with them (yes I played soccer). At the end of our day we learned how the mothers are integrated into the program as well as they showed us how they till the earth and ready it for planting. They recieve all kinds of support from childcare to psycho social help….We will go back tomorrow for some more insigh into how we will help with the programs at Tiyambe Nawo, the village we will be living in starting tomorrow!
